Moving On

Set: Simple set, tea chests and packing cases.
Synopsis: Since the death of her husband, Angela has shut herself away. But now she's moving out of the family home and her feelings are forced to the surface. When an old
friend surprises her with an unexpected declaration, it may be just what she needs...
Running time: Around 30 minutes (Caution! This is very dependent on your production.)
Notes: 'I deliberately wrote 'Moving On' as an exercise in restraint, where what is left unsaid is often just as important, if not more so, than what is said. The circumstances
surrounding Ted's death are left deliberately vague so that the actors and audience can fill in the gaps with their own imaginations. This, hopefully, mirrors the way in which
Angela has refused to get to grips with her husband's death.
Don't be fooled by the serious nature of the subject, though. There are some laughs to be had on the way and the simple staging may prove effective in a festival setting.'

SAMPLE SCENE
Bob: Well. It's been a while.
Angela: I've had a lot on my plate.
Bob: I know. You've been missed, though. Down at the club. I've had to get a new quiz team together. We're not as good as the old one, though. We miss your expertise.
(Pause.)
Bob: George and Brenda send their love.
(Another pause.)
Bob: Oh, I saw your Simon last week.
Angela: Oh yes?
Bob: He looked like he had a lot on his shoulders. Is he all right?
Angela: I really don't know. I've not seen much of him recently. I've not seen much of anyone. I've just not felt up to it.
Bob: I know.
Angela: Do you?
